Seven thousand acres of largely pristine wildlife habitat surrounding Vail Lake – long dreamed of for conservation – were acquired for watershed protection purposes.

Major environmental and planning gains were achieved though last minute changes weakened the Significant Ecological Areas.

EHL submitted scientific information to state and federal agencies in order to help prevent the extinction of the highly endangered San Bernardino kangaroo rat.

When adopted in 1996, almost all of the 37,378 acres of the Central-Coastal Natural Community Conservation Plan/Habitat Conservation Plan were in place. Now, the key missing parcel has been conserved.
